Northwest New Mexico Water Recreation

Prior to fishing at these lakes, make sure that you have the appropriate licenses and are familiar with the governing agency's fishing regulations for that particular lake.

Operated and managed by New Mexico State Parks, Bluewater Lake is about 28 miles west of Grants and is set in a pinon-juniper landscape with views towards the Zuni Mountains.

Boating, camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, wildlife/bird watching, and various water recreation.

Facilities

Bluewater Lake has a visitor center, standard/primitive and group campground sites, restrooms with water/showers/vault toilets, boating facilities, and a RV dump station.


Campgrounds
Bluewater Campground consists of 149 developed campsites with restrooms that have showers, water, and vault toilets. Electric hookups and RV Dump station also available.

Boat Ramps
• One concrete ramp west of the park office.
• One concrete ramp at the Stoneridge Recreation Area.
• One beach ramp at Las Tusas Recreation Area.

Fees

• No lake use fees required.
• Fees for campground use.
• A valid New Mexico fishing license is required.

Fishing

This lake is well stocked with rainbow trout, tiger muskie, and channel catfish by New Mexico Game and Fish. Smallmouth bass is also present.
