The Montrose County Historical Museum was an idea born out of the Montrose Woman's Club in 1966 who wanted "a museum to preserve and display early day articles and history of our American heritage especially as related to the area of Montrose County". In 1973, the Denver & Rio Grande Depot became available and the museum found a physical home.

The museum house numerous vintage artifacts and equipment which exmplifies American pioneer and agricultural life in the region.
